oh man, i really don’t mean to be so bad at this, but finals zapped my brain, guys.
anyway, PACKING. holy crap. my research fellowship starts on monday. i’m trying not to be a neurotic over-packer, but what if i need these things?! i can only wear pants in the lab, so that narrows things down quite a bit.
just kidding, i’m going to wear these obnoxiously pink pants the rest of my life. and i got an orange belt. i’m gonna ride this neon trend to death.
and in other news, go OKC. never not hating the lakers.
i’m at work! hooray. this was before i actually started working, so calm yourselves. i promise i’m now in a wildly unflattering labcoat and all my hair is up! as always, rainy days = khaki chinos and purcells.
anyway, microbiology is insane, but i will sort of miss this lab a lot. it’s my last week here! i’ll miss you, Halobacterium salinarium! *tears*
red pants, blue shirt, sperrys. if you only buy solid colors, you can get dressed in the dark and still look like a reasonably normal human being!
anyway, pro tip: don’t drink iced coffee all morning while studying for a physics final. it’s a three hour test and you can’t leave, not even to go to the bathroom! plan ahead, you guys. but i got a 97! wah. i miss that class already. weird? weird.
semi-massive influx of new followers; hi!
i wore those really obnoxious pink pants the other day! for some reason, it still isn’t humid and disgusting in kentucky, so i can still wear blazers and not die. it’s pretty nice. downside, as soon as i get to work, i take off my blazer and scarf and wear a labcoat. science vs. fashion, round 2.
…but it’s finals week, so i’m finishing a microbiology paper. in pajamas. but my unknown ID report came together really well! i tend to ramble (see also: right now), but i think i reigned it in!
anyway, jazz at spurs or… study for physics? :(
rainy, stressful days always involve khaki chinos and purcells. whatever.
i have a physics exam today! 18% of my grade! jesus. and the final is on monday! ugh. i think this week was my last physics lecture, ever. i mean, unless i take modern physics in the fall. or classical mechanics. neither of which are required. nor do i need any electives. i just really like physics a lot? and if i took both those classes and another physics class (thermodynamics!), i’d have a minor in physics. why? why the fuck not?
ALSO! in news that is interesting to none of my followers (except krista, who is the bee’s knees)… my Halobacterium subculture worked!! i found a publication called The Halohandbook: Protocols for Haloarchaeal Genetics. apparently upping the temperature and making my own media (instead of using HBA) is best. hopefully transfer to liquid media is as successful.
/long, winded post
//time to study!!
green pants, navy sweater, grey silk blouse. in other news, it’s cold as fuck. what’s the deal? it’s going to be cold and shitty all week! pink neon pants tomorrow. i hope the world is ready.
related news: my term paper (a lab report) is dragging. it’s already a million pages and i’m scared i’m mixing tenses or some silly shit. do i include all this useless information? i feel like i should write to a target audience of idiots, since i’m pretty much required to include the “why” for… well, every step of the project. why did i do an oxidase test? uh, i dunno, i didn’t want to go make my own fluid thioglycollate medium? ugh. really? list the reagents?
hint: no
/bi-weekly bitch fest
green pants yesterday. also, bright neon pink. terrible lighting makes them seem less obnoxious. neon pants? are neon pants work appropriate? i think they’re go to hell pants in that people in my lab will say “go to hell, you’re blinding me.” whatever, bright pants forever. no regrets, guys.
you guys, i have so many lab reports to write. it’s sort of ridiculous. i’m ready for the semester to be over, but not for finals. also,
in news that no one in the world will find relevant: i’m the TA for a microbiology professor who just had a baby. so… i’m doing all her subcultures. well, re-culturing every single bacteria stock. anyway, we didn’t have the right liquid media for L. acidophilus and i made that shit from scratch! bromocresol purple is fun to play with. also, let’s hope the media for the Halobacterium worked, because i really have no idea what other liquid media to use for that shit. i have a streak plate on HBA right now, but if this liquid media doesn’t work… ugh. related news, “beef extract” is as disgusting as it sounds.
ugh!
gross, the library talkers are here.
woo! today is going to be awesome:
also, i got a 100% on that electromagnetism exam in physics. forever ruining the curve for everyone. nerds, ftw
